: Duidan : Extremity of the Mouth

Du-27 : Extraordinary Governing Vessel 27


Location:

On the midline, at the junction of the margin of the upper lip and the philtrum.


Needling:

Oblique insertion directed superiorly 0.2 - 0.3 cun.


Classical Needling:

"It is needled to a depth of two fen, (the needle) is retained for a duration of six exhalation, and it is moxaed with three cones" (Huangfu Mi 皇甫謐, 3rd Century, Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing 針灸甲乙經).


TCM Actions:

Clears Heat, generates fluid and benefits the mouth
Calms the Shen

Superficial Innervation: Maxillary branch of trigeminal nerve (CN V2)

Dermatome Segment: CN V2 maxillary branch of trigeminal
