Xu Ming Tang

Extend Life Decoction

Category: Formulas that Expel Wind

Pattern: External Wind invading the Channels with Qi and Blood deficiency, or Internal stirring of Liver Wind producing Heat

Key Symptoms: Flaccid hemiplegia and aphasia, inability to recognise friends or identify the source of pain
Secondary Symptoms: Dry stools, low grade fever, malar flush

Tongue: Yellow and greasy, or yellow and thin coating
Pulse: Wiry and forceful, or slippery and rapid


Ingredients

Ma Huang 9g
Gui Zhi 9g
Ren Shen 9g
Dang Gui 9g
Chuan Xiong 4.5g
Xing Ren 9g
Gan Jiang 9g
Gan Cao 9g
Shi Gao 9g

Subsitutions:
In the UK Shi Gao must be substituted. Zhi Mu would have the same heat clearing properties without drying.
Ma Huang is also limited to 1.8g daily dose and 0.6g maximum single dose in the UK so it may have to be supplemented with Zi Su Ye and Jing Jie that are also warm, exterior releasing herbs.


Preparation: Decoction.


Actions: Supports the normal Qi, clears Heat and disperses Wind.
